Looking for a sustainable cleaner but don’t know which one to buy? I reviewed the Dutybox Window and Mirror Cleaner. See if it’s right for you!
This post is a review of the Dutybox Glass Cleaner.

Now more than ever, consumers are looking for brands to produce sustainable products to help the environment. Consumers desire recyclable, durable, and/or reusable products that create as little waste as possible to reduce their carbon footprint. Sustainable cleaners are no exception to the movement.
Cleaning products are notorious for their usage of single-use plastics. Millions of plastic bottles end up in landfills each year, and consumers desire cleaning products that are more sustainable to reduce plastic waste.
How I found the product
I was looking for a window cleaner on Amazon because it’s hard to find cleaners at stores in my area. I discovered an ad on Amazon for a sustainable window and mirror cleaner from Dutybox. They offered a reusable bottle and concentrated refills. I was interested, so I wanted to try it.
Aside from the cardboard Amazon box it was shipped in, the cleaner was packaged in a biodegradable bag (it almost appeared to be translucent glassine or wax paper, I’m not sure). I appreciate that Dutybox thought of the packaging and made it eco-friendly.
How to use Dutybox Cleaner
Getting the cleaner ready to go was a breeze. The cleaning concentrate refill comes in these tiny bottles. The concentrate refills do come in single-use plastic bottles, which is a bummer for a brand that aims for sustainability. The cleaning bottle itself is also plastic, but it’s a reusable bottle, so I’ll let it slide for now.
The instructions are to snip off the top of the refill bottle with scissors, pour the concentrate into the reusable bottle they give you, and fill it with 450ml of purified water. I was too lazy to measure out 450ml of water, so I filled up the bottle with cold tap water. I gave it a shake and it was good to go! Because I used tap instead of purified water like the instructions specified, my results might be different. However, I don’t think the average person is going to measure 450ml of purified water anyway, so in my opinion, this might lead to the results the average user of this cleaner would have.
The results
I first used the Dutybox glass cleaner on my bathroom mirror. I cleaned it with bounty paper towels and absolutely HATED the results. It left a weird film residue on the mirror. I tried again, and the film wasn’t as noticeable, but still visible.
I tried to clean the mirror AGAIN on a different day, this time with a microfiber cloth. It has honestly never occurred to me to use a microfiber cloth, but the instructions stated the cleaner should be wiped with a cloth, preferably microfiber. I got a microfiber cloth that I would normally use for my car and achieved better results.
Before After
I was significantly more pleased with the results from attempt 2. The film was much less visible. You could only see it from certain angles when looking at the mirror. If you were standing directly in front of the mirror, you may not notice it. I am pretty loyal to the Windex glass cleaner, but this one from Dutybox gives it a run for its money because it’s more sustainable.
Final thoughts
Overall, I would give this product 4/5 stars.
You can purchase Dutybox glass cleaner here.
I think this product is a great substitute for a glass cleaner if you’re looking for a more sustainable option. It may not perform as well as other glass cleaners, but I am personally willing to overlook the film it leaves if I am able to reduce my plastic waste. The concentrate refills do come in single-use plastic bottles, but that is probably better than continuously buying plastic cleaning bottles over and over again.
Am I shouting from the rooftops about how well it cleans glass and mirrors? No. But I do appreciate a brand that aims to produce a reusable and more sustainable option for consumers like me who want eco-friendly products.
